Hi all,
Any Aberdonians out there who can tell me if 6 Castle Terrace, St Nicholas, Aberdeen is/was a private address or hospital.
I have a couple of births there and am trying to link them so hopefully it is a private address.
Kind regards,
Annette M

It would be a private address. The postcode of No.6 Castle Terrace is AB 11 5FA.
Bervonian.
Thanks for your reply. I got the postcode to be AB11 5DZ but got no clues from that.
On the 1881 census 8 Castle Terrace is Aberdeen Hospital but there is no 6 which is why I wondered if it was the hospital. The time period I'm looking at is 1920's.
Kind regards,

Hi Annette,
I did a Google and came up with the following:
http://www.brebner.com/uploads/bre10044 ... 20Aberdeen'
Doesn't look like it was a residence...take a look at the top of Page 3 at Agnes Brebner...looks like she was born at 6 Castle Terrace with a usual residence elsewhere.
...on the otherhand - probably could have been a residence. I noticed on the 1881 census that there doesn't seem to be a 6 Castle Terrace...the numbers go down the line to 9 then 8 and then back to 9 Castle Terrace. Sorry...I'm definitely no help!
Regards,
Anne H

Hello Bervonian and Anne,
Thanks a lot for input.
I've mailed Aberdeen City Archives. I'll let you know the outcome although I'd say it was probably a hospital
Kind regards,
Annette M

Hi Annette,

I'll see what I can find out for you...I asked my mum if there was a hospital in Castle Terrace (she lived in Justice Street just round the corner, born 1928) and she remembers a maternity hospital there, she used to play outside it, but she doesn't remember the number.
Regards
Elaine
