I can't find James Morrison (the son) anywhere in England in 1871, any ideas?
Any suggestions welcome.....

It's okay, I think I found James Morris in 1871 mistakenly listed as a son of James Godard in Ancoats. Not far from where his wife to be was living with her first husband.
Still no closer to the Greenock connection.

Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).
Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

Yes you have found him, must have put the son of Morrison in relation to head and then lodger in marital status. Once again Ancoats is the place of the census. I tracked James Goddard down in the 1861 census and he was a baker in Leeds at that time, young James must have worked for him and made the move to Manchester with them. By the way did you notice James Godards brother George was livng next door to him in Ancoats?
I haven't been able to find John M Morrison in 1901 so far. I did find a John Morrison born leeds age 49 unmar a lodger in Beswick Manchester, he was a carter.

Finally found John M Morrison in 1901, but no clue there as there are only his wife and himself at the address. Out of interest I statred at the 1861 census and found John at home in Leeds with James and Mary. No other John Morrison born within 5 years of that date in Leeds.
1871 The same John Morrison at home with his parents in Leeds.
1881. Still only the one John Morrison born within 5 years of the date in Leeds. Was with James junior in Union Street Manchester.
1891. There were 2 John Morrisons born within the 5 year period.
1. John Morrison living in Beswick Manchester a carrier.
2. John Morrison born Leeds 1852 a Hawker living in Gibsgate
Moor Durham.
1901 John M Morrison in Manchester.
I checked back and none of the earlier census had the Durham John Morrison. Maybe this family were on the move or avoiding the census.
So it seems safe to say that the John M Morrison in Manchester in 1901 is the son of James and Mary Morrison in Leeds. Although it is a mystery why the initial M has not been on any other census previous to 1901.
Would it be worth sending for the marriage certificate of John and Eliza Bovett I wonder?
