All the Finns that I know, - and that's a few over the years given my second wife's nationality, - and the time that I've spent there, would at very least gently correct anyone who called them Scandinavian; Nordic, yes, but not Scandinavian.Thrall wrote:Hi Fifer, I'm afraid I only suggested that Engber(t) was of Scandinavian origin, so can take no credit for guessing at Poustie's origin. Some would even say, particularly my Finnish friends, that only possibly the most north western part of Finnland could conceivably be thought of as Scandinavian but there I´m getting pedantic! Even we Icelanders have mixed feelings about sometimes being called Scandinavian.I would however like to see the Poustie website if I may.

And then, just to complicate matters, 8% of Finns are native Finland Swedish speakers, - identical to Swedish exept for a few old style Swedish words and grammatical constructions and above all the pronunciation, - hence the international letters for the country - "SF" = Suomi/Finland, - the respective Finnish and Swedish names for the country.
If you really want to get a discussion started ask a Finn about the difference between a Finn and a Karelian..............
And I would never dream of calling an Icelander Scandinavian
