Hi Davie
Yes we thought possibly before 1855 because of the record system and Scottish documents only have wills or inventories for his sons James and William.
Maybe James birth name wasnt James ive found that to be the case of many of my family

http://www.anesfhs.org.uk/
http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp may be of some help too.

Hi WilmaM
I have mailed the Aberdeen FHS but they never replied but my family live in Aberdeen and are members so they visit it often
I have asked Graham at Moray many questions and he has been very patient !!
Also Old Meldrum local studies dept was very helpful especially with the early census - maybe i will give them another go ..wont they be happy !!!
I have also trailed through the MI that Aberdeen FHS has on the web, and another one, a Banff Churchyard that has been transcribed that i cant remember the name of at the moment.
Thanks anyway
Tracey
