Fortunately it's only about half the northern side of the High Street that has been modernised, - the Western end, - the Eastern half is untouched. but I don't know the implication of that in terms of numbers.

PS The home made cullen skink at the Four Marys is highly recommended.

Hi Wilma,
My original plan was for the end of this month, but alas, I’ve had to postpone my trip until probably the end of the year, hopefully sooner.

No doubt you have this, but it looks like your husband’s OLIVER’s and my MILLAR’s were close neighbours at the time of the 1881 census. 2xgreat grandfather William down the street at 84 and son John up the street at 168.

Hi Davie,
I’m glad it isn’t all modernized but at least it sounds like I’ll still be able to see what it was like back then and thanks for the websites…I’m going to bribe my sister into going on a research/sight-seeing trip ending with some of that home made cullen skink at the Four Mary’s since you highly recommend it…I might even try making it one of these days if I can find a large smoked haddock.

Regards,
AnneH

Yes Anne - that's Auld Jock! - Shoemaker , poet, ventriloquist to name just a few of his supposed talents  he and Annie went on to have about 13 children

When you do make it here, do give me a shout if I can help you with anything.
Wilma

Sounds like an interesting character Wilma...I'll bet Auld Jock was the life of the party. Many thanks for your offer of help.
