Hello again Talking Scot
Could anyone help me. I have managed to get a bit further with my family tree, but I am stuck finding dates and places of birth
Have found the dates of birth and marriage for my GGgrandfather and mother and where they were born and also found their parents but cannot find any dates or places of birth for them.
My GGgrandfather was James Gauld - Born in Tough Aberdeen 31/7/1851 he was a master builder and employed 17 people in 1881 his father was James Gauld and his mother was Mary Sandison( Sandieson) married in Alford Aberdeenshire on 29/3/1846 but I cannot find their birthplaces or dates.
My GGgrandmother was Elizabeth Davidson - Born in Old Deer Aberdeen in 1852 not sure of the date but could be 16 October (if her mother was called Jane Mess) Her parents were George Davidson and Jane ?Masson or Mess and again I have no birth date or place(have even found her as Jean Mess)
My GGgrandparents were married 26/11/1875 in St Nicholas Aberdeen
Please could anyone help me
Zero
Scotlands people seem to have lost my account including all of my saved records (luckily Most of them were printed out).

Hello Zero
Could this be your James and Mary in 1881 ?
Have you searched other census for their birth places ?

Did you find Elizabeths (Davidson) birth on IGI ? If so do the other children born to George and Jane mean anything to you and the “middle“ names one or two have. Have you managed to trace any of them through the census and have you looked for Elizabeths death cert to confirm the parents ?

Hello Zero
It would be worth checking with SP about your missing records as I have been using it for a number of years & mine are still all available. Meanwhile I looked at the family of Elizabeth Davidson - they appear to be relatively easy to find through the census data - although the 1851 transcription that I have seems to have childrens names incorrect (if I have the right family)
The civil marriage for James and Elizabeth should confirm the names of their parents. Meanwhile
This is 1871
George Davidson 51 Head born Old Deer Order Clerk
Jane Davidson 50 wife born St Fergus Banffshire
Children all except William born Old Deer
George M 22 Druggist
Isabella 20 Dressmaker
Elizabeth 18 machinist
Jessie L 16 employed at home
William 11 born Oyne scholar
Grandchild
Edith N D Moir (Muir?) age transcribed a s 55??? maybe 5 days/weeks/months
living in Aberdeen St Nicholas
1861 Summary
1861 Jane is listed as Jane Mess Davidson - wife birth transcription St Gergus Aberdeenshire
Some of the older children are missing
1851 Summary
They appear to be in Old Deer
Jane is listed as Jean aged 35 born Longside, they have a son Thomas and daughter Elizabeth??
George consistently gives his birthplace as Old Deer
Jane/Jean (very interchangeable names) gives her birthplace as Longside Aberdeenshire or St Fergus Banff. These 2 parishes are only 5 miles apart and St Fergus, at times has belonged to both Aberdeenshire and Banffshire. From Genuki
From Genuki http://www.abdnet.co.uk/genuki/BAN/Stfergus/index.html
While St Fergus represented the largest of the anomalies which were corrected on 1st May, 1891, it was a quite straightforward one. Up until that date, the entire parish belonged to Banffshire; after that date, the entire parish belonged to Aberdeenshire. But (perhaps because it was such a large anomaly) different records for St Fergus are liable to appear under either Aberdeenshire or Banffshire.
It seems MOST likely that Elizabeth's mother is Jane/Jean Mess and looking at the IGI
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... _form=true
these are the children for George and Jane
Jane 1842
Sarah 1843
George Mess 1847
Isabella 1850
Elizabeth 1852
Jessie Lind 1854
Robert 1856
William 1859
And the marriage - George Davidson married Jean Mess 26 Nov 1840 Old Deer, Aberdeen
If you can find George and Jane/Jean in 1840, you may find their parents.
A further search of the IGI gives
JEAN MESS Christening: 22 NOV 1823 Longside, Aberdeen, Scotland
Father JOHN MESS Mother MARGARET YOUNGSON
GEORGE DAVIDSON Christening: 08 FEB 1818 Old Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland
Father ALEXANDER DAVIDSON Mother CHRISTIAN THOMSON

another brick wall
Hello its me again
have hit a brick wall or 2 again
Firstly
James Gauld 1735-1809 married to Ann Bonnyman 1717-1788. not sure of their birth places but we have their son William Gauld 1785-1871 born in Kildrummy. can anybody help with regards to either parents or birth places that would be a shove in the right direction
secondly
A few generations closer to now James George Davidson Gauld(my gGrandfather. b. ? 1877 ?Old Machar Aberdeen ) Married to Isabella Coutts (b.? 1880).
when I search for Isabella Coutts there are too many possibilities to be sure that i have the right one as I have no definate age or Place of birth so therefor I cannot find her parents
Please help Thanks to your help and help from some new found distant cousins I have reached back to the early18th century with all branches of my Scottish family except the Coutts branch.
thankx in advance

Hi Zero,
All the best,
Sarah
Do you have their marriage cert? That should tell who the parents were. Was the marriage before or after the 1901 census?zero wrote: A few generations closer to now James George Davidson Gauld(my gGrandfather. b. ? 1877 ?Old Machar Aberdeen ) Married to Isabella Coutts (b.? 1880).

Hi again,
I just answered one of my own questions
I see that they were married before 1901:
1901
32 Mid Stocket Road, Aberdeen Rosemount, Aberdeenshire
James G D Gauld, 24, Head, born Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Mason (buildueg)
Isabella Gauld, 19, Wife, born Aberdeen, Aberdeen
Elizabeth Gauld, 9 mo, Daur, born Aberdeen, Aberdeen
You should have a pretty tight time window to find their marriage, given her age.
All the best,
Sarah
Later:
On SP you will find that James Gauld married Isabella Coutts in St Nicholas, Aberdeen City in 1900. If you download the cert, it should give you her parents names-- although not guaranteed of course...
