I also have a disppearing Mitchell.....

I too hve been unable to trace someone with the surname of Mitchell

My late husband`s mother was stated to be (on her marriage certificate)
BLANCHE EILEEN MITCHELL, One of the first efforts in our search for the family history, was for her & my husband`s father.

My husband never knew his parents or anything about his family, he believed that he had been abadoned by his mother and that his father had died in WW1. It was not until shortly before his death, he expressed the desire to try and find out if he had any relatives, and if they knew about his parents.
Sadly he died before very much progress had been made. My son later determined to trace the family, and has made great progress with the Jarvis side, but absolutely nothing concerning the mother Blanche Eileen Mitchell.

We did discover that the father Arthur Jarvis, had not died in WW1, but in fact died in 1921 due to a gas leak at his home in Southend on Sea, Essex.
He had divorced Blanche Eileen in 1920 for adultery, and he was given custody of the child (my husband) he therefore would not have been allowed to have any contact with the mother. The only facts we could find out about her were, that she had an affair and the result was a child born in 1918, but she named herself on the birth cert. as Blanche Fraser, no middle name being given, the name of the father of the child was also false, the divorce paper cited a different person as the father, obviously this could have been an attempt to cover up the birth, but it was not
successful.

Blanche stated that her father was John Mitchell, a Sgt major in the Cameron Highlanders, but up to now, have been unable to trace him
either.

I now begin to wonder, what was her real name? was it Mitchell or was it Fraser. Unfortunately English marriage certificates do not give the mother`s name, so this make it even more difficult to trace Blanche, according to the age given on her marriage (21 in 1913) this would give an estimated birth year of abt 1891/2.

Has anyone come across this name in their research of the Mitchells?
or Frasers?

I would welcome any information available that may lead to her.
Another item which leads me to believe she may have had a Scottish link, is the names she gave her child a son, born in 1918, Gordon Graham Stuart, there was also a first child to her husband born in 1914 he was named Donald, again a Scottish name.

If any of these name "rings a bell" would you please contact me, thank you
Seeking any descendents from Ezekiel McCulloch, Port Glasgow, also Neil Barr (Greenock)

There is a Blanch Mitchell born about 1890 in Theydon Bois, Essex in both the 1891 and 1901 censuses. Her father was Peter but she did have brothers with very Scottish names including Donald, Wallace and Archibald.

Another in Willesden, Middlesex, whose father, Ernest, an electrical engineer was born in Scotland.

But none I can see in England with a father John.

May be worth a wee search on the Scotland's People 1901 census, shouldn't think there will be many Blanche Mitchells
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.
