Rillies of Stobo.....
Totally stuck, In 1866 James Rillie, Ploughman Aged 21 Married Jane McBride Age 22 In Stobo Peebleshire. The Marriage records give Jame's parents as George Rillie,Thatcher,Deceased and his Mother as Elizabeth Cochens (but possibly Cochren). Is it possible that someone out there may have a clue on George and Elizabeth.

Hi there Utrecht
Just about to call it an evening and I had 1 credit left
This looks like Elizabeth's DC from Scotland's People. With any luck her parents will be named. Looks like the Cochrane was right and she also was married to an Abbott at some point.
1 1895 RILLIE ELIZABETH ABBOT COCHRANE F 69 CAMBUSLANG GLASGOW CITY LANARK 627/00 0276
Hope this helps
Best wishes

Hi again Utrecht
Glad I could help! Just to try and confirm your suspicions about Ireland I believe this is Elizabeth and her 2nd husband and his daughter (?) on the 1881 census.

but since James states he was born in Lanark then you must assume his father died in Scotland. A look at the 1851 census might yield George, Elizabeth & James and their places of birth and also narrow up a death window on George but since his death doesn't readily appear in the Statutory records you must also assume it was prior to 1855. Too bad.
Best wishes
