Hi Everybody,
I'm new to this site and to geneological research.
I am wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I'm having finding information on a g grandfather John Dunn McDonald. He doesn't seem to have been born, married or even died. Yet I have found him, his wife Letitia Morin, children John Dunn, James, Archibald and twins Christina and Margaret on the 1881 and 1891 census. He was born around 1840 in Sterlingshire at Denny. The birth records for his children give his marriage to Letitia Morin ca 1867-68 at Cunnock. They later moved to Renfrewshire. He signed off on his wife's Death Record in 1896. He was a Dyer and I think that it could be him on the 1901 census as a lodger in Paisley. All this information I found on the ScotlandsPeople site. I have spent many a credit on the wrong John McDonald. My mother said that this line of our family was Catholic. I assume Roman Catholic.
Thanks
Sheila

Hi Jean
Thank you! Thank you! That was truly great advice. I looked up John Dunn on Scotlands People as you said, and this was indeed them. I never thought to look up Dunn instead of McDonald. I was getting pretty frustrated and thanks to this Marriage Record, I now have 2 more ancestors to trace.
Thank you again,
Sheila

Hi Sheila
It was my pleasure. Some days are just luckier than others when spnning the big SP wheel!! I'm really glad it was your family....and now you have some more clues to track down.
btw...I didn't search for Dunn either.....I searched only by female name for Let* Mor* everywhere and came up with a list less than one page long. Someone taught me once to always go for the unusual name first....pays off every time!!
Good luck!!!
