Hi Catlady
Have you found the family in the 1841 and 1851 census? If not, that might give you some extra information .

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Catlady,

It looks they probably died in Scotland (and post-1854), so their death certificates are worth seeking on ScotlandsPeople. They should have the parents' names on them.

I see the family group (except Cecelia) in Ratho Midlothian in the 1851 census. In 1861 after more of them have left home, the family is in Govan, Renfrewshire. By 1871, Janet is the head of the family, presumably widowed and in Dabbeattie (Urr), Kirkcudbrightshire. Her death can be found soon after in Dalbeattie.

All the best,

AndrewP

Due to the changes in names over the years, it is possible that you may find your relatives recorded as Muldroch, or McMuldroch. I have some Meldrums born in Glasgow, who are related to McMuldroch/Muldroch. There are also McMuldroch/Muldrochs in Dumfries area.

I was contacted by some people via Genes Reunited, who are related to my branch of Meldrum, who gave me the above info. I have not done much research on this part of my tree, as it is a fairly distant branch.

Hope this info helps

Hi Ruth

William Meldrum b1789 and Janet Irving b1806c are my great great grandparents. Alexander Meldrum b 1844c is my great granda, his son John Meldrum b1873 was my granda and his son John Meldrum b1911 was my Da.

I have a lot of information on the family with a few blanks.

I sincerely hope you are still on this site.

Ever hopeful

Ruth has not signed in on the site since August of 2008 :( However, if she still has the same email address, she may get a notification of your post.

Fingers crossed!

Dear Brenda,

I'm a different person from Ruth but William Meldrum (1789-1870) and Janet Irving (1805-1872) are my 4x great-grandparents! William was a master mason and road contractor, while Janet was the daughter of an inkeeper and brother to a Royal Navy surgeon who tragically died in 1827 but left behind a ship-log, which I have read.

I've researched the family a good deal and would love to exchange information with you, if you are still around and willing.

My email address is: seanmatthew1@outlook.com.

Please get in touch,

Warm regards,

Sean
