Mary Strain.....
Could anyone help me find the birthplace of Mary Strain please. She was born around 1825 somewhere in Scotland. The only other detail I have of her is that her father was called Neal.

Hello Gran
Apologies if I'm stating the obvious but have you found Mary on census?... this should tell you where she was born.
Her marriage cert should also tell you if her parent were living or deceased.. this narrows the range to search for their death certs (to confirm fathers name).
good luck
Jim

Hello Jim, the only census I have found her on are the 1861/71 in England and birthplace given as Scotland.
She was married in England and the certificates have only the bride and grooms names, occupation and address they were married from. There are the fathers names and occupations but no indication of mothers or if fathers were alive. Nothing like the Scottish certificates.
