Hi,
I have been trying without success, for many years to track the ancestry of my grandmother. I have tried Origins, but keep getting the wrong person.
All I have is information from her marriage certificate and the knowledge that she was born somewhere in the general location of Glasgow (but that could be say a 50mile radius), and her maiden name was Brown or Browne. We are unsure if the 'e' is simply a flourish at the end of the name or not.
Being many 10,000's of km from Scotland I have to rely on access to records on line and try and find the best fit and then buy the birth certificate. So far all the ones I have purchsed are wrong and that has exhausted the list I found using Origins.
What I would like to find is if there is a site which allows access to reasonable data that gives the certainty of selecting the right person and then buy the birth certificate. Alternatively someone we could pay to research for us. We tried that soemtime ago, but the information that came back did not fit 100% with her name and my fathers understanding of the family.
Any comments and ideas would be welcome
regards
David Coates

Hello and welcome David,
Have you tried searching the official government BMD's at - www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.
Visit the site and have a browse at years covered before you start.
If you would like to post your gran's marriage details here then someone may be able to point you in the right direction. It could be she is to young and the information is not available on line.
regards,
Annette M

Hi David
I'll echo Nelmit's welcome and her good advice to check out the Scotland's People website.
I understand your frustration with searching from a distance only too well...but I also happily know from past experience that there is a wealth of knowledge and expertise right here on this discussion board! Give us something to work with and see what happens.
Unfortunately I've yet to find the perfect site that guarantees you're buying the right certificate before you punch that button.....but if you happen to find one.....I hope you share the details
Best wishes
Jean
