How to address this name change in tree.....

Post by Dennis » Sun Jul 31, 2005 12:14 am

Hi.

I have a couple who divorced. The wife goes back to her maiden name and son from the marriage takes the mother's maiden name. Is there documentation I should be looking at?

There may be no documentation to find except divorce papers, and a previous post on names states that a woman in Scotland is free to use whatever name she wishes to, she is under no legal obligation to take the mans name. As for her son, after the split, he can change his name also without any legal work or papers, as long as it is not for illegal purposes.

If you use legacy, click on individual, then on image with a few wee people on it next to his family name and a dialogue box "alternate name" should appear. Then Bobs your uncle, or aunty if it is a Saturday night
