information on Grandparent.....

Post by Rosie K » Fri Aug 12, 2005 6:28 pm

My Grandmothers name was Catherine McConville born around 1891 she married a John O'Shaughnessy who was a miner in Cleland Lanarkshire, she had two daughters Margaret born around 1909 died 1961 in Glasgow second daughter my mother Roseanne born 1911 died 1949 Ruchill Hospital Glasgow. I would like to know about my Grandfather as he died very young, I don't know where he died as I don't know when the family moved to Glasgow, all I know is it was maybe before 1933. I don't know of any other living relations. Can anyone help with this Thankyou.

Rosie,

I had a few extra credits on SP so I did a look-up for you. Your grandfather died on April 13, 1914 at 70 Onion Street, Cleland. HIs parents were John O'Shaughnessy (farmer) and Rose Ann Corrigan.

Hi Ann,

Yes the age fits, death record in 1914 lists him as 34 years old. Death certificate was signed by a James Doris (neighbour).

hi Rosie, Your grandfathers birth and his parents marriage appear to be on this site.

http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/ under Killoe Parish marriages and baptisms. There also appear to be some siblings for your grandfather, albeit only initials for the Christian names.

Easiest way to get the results -- use the search engine at bottom of page to search for Corrigan in Church records, then search SHAUGHNESSY to search within results. No sign of the 'O'.

I checked the griffiths Valuation for Co.Longford-1854- and there were no O'Shaughnessys, but 8 Shaughnessys. Six of these appear as neighbours in Killoe Parish and sandwiched between are a Daniel and Michael DOORIS.
It might be worthwhile following up the James Doris that Ina found as informant on Johns death cert.

Though the above records are before your grandfathers time, and maybe even before gt.grandfather John, I think they are of the same family. (remembering father John wasn't married until 1873, though it could have been a second marriage, or he didn't tie the knot till later in life. Though he didn't appear as deceased on the death record for young John)

Heads of households for Shaughnessy and Dooris in order-
Townland-Corneddan

Michael
Mich-(probably the above, or a young member of family working his own piece of ground, as this entry has no 'hoose'.
