Dundee Courier, Wednesday, February 09, 1848;

FATAL ACCIDENT.—About twelve o'clock on Thursday night, Margaret Barclay, a person from Scarborough, but belonging to this town, having come here to receive some money left her by way of legacy, was enjoying herself with some friends in a house in Butter's Close, foot of Hawkhill, and having occasion to accompany one of them to the door, she inadvertently walked over the stair, which by the by was unprovided with any railing. She alighted on her head in the close below, and had her skull fractured in consequence. The poor woman lingered on until about seven o'clock on Friday evening when death put a period to her sufferings. She was a married woman and has left a young family.

Sorry for the bad link. I meant 1851 too.

The newspaper article is great and very helpful, thank you Alan. What an horrible story though, and I can't imagine how George learned what happened and how he felt.

And thank you Gill for all those pieces of information. We are getting closer and closer.

Here is the info for possibly William BARCLAY junior

So 'nice' to have the newspaper article, even if they got her name wrong! We are really going places!

And Isabella's Birth information:
1818 Barclay | Isabella Daughter of William Barclay Miller Seggie & of Janet Grant his spouse was born on the 22nd of July & baptd on the 29th by The Revd Wm Simpson
The Reverend name is interesting.

The other funny thing is trying to figure what "Seggie" could mean, it seems to be a location in Leuchars, and apparently, today is living there a P. Barclay (at NO 1 COTTAGE SEGGIE FM CUPAR RD GUARDBRIDGE LEUCHARS ST ANDREWS)
http://www.findpeoplefree.co.uk/r.aspx? ... ST+ANDREWS

I think I also have all the baptism images for the ones born in Leuchars that I copied while searching in Dundee. Now that we know that they are the right ones, I will dig to get them and share the information.
