Hi Jean,

I wish I could make out the mother's married surname, let alone her maiden surname.

It may be worth your while submitting a contact form to ScotlandsPeople, telling them it is unreadable. They should post you a copy out that may be more legible.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Hi Andrew

I know that her father's surname is Wattie, for certain. Does that help in the deciphering?

Hi Jean,

Whatever it is, it looks awfy like James Birss' wife Catherine's maiden name. Starts with a "D"?
(the bottom entry on the page)

Hi Jack
James Birss's wife Catherine's maiden name looks like Dunn and looking at Isobel Cooper's mother's name - could be Dunn?

I'm away to the IGI site to have a ferret!

Jack

You are wonderful. It is Dun(n) Found Isobel and her siblings on the IGI site.

More work to be done now.

Many thanks
Jean

Hello Jean,

looks like Dunn to me, and perhaps confirmed by a marriage in 1796 also in Kincardine O'Neil (from the IGI).

Regards,

John

Hello John

Now you have me confused.

I found Isobel and her siblings on the IGI. Looked for a marriage of the parents and found none.

Is the 1796 date you mentioned, the birth of Isobel's brother, Peter Wattie and not a marriage?

Hello Jean,

more haste, less speed. It was the birth of Peter that confirmed the parents' names. Sorry for the error.

John

For others, these are the kids recorded in the OPR....

Gender: Female Christening: 26 OCT 1785 Kincardine O'Neil, Aberdeen, Scotland

CHRISTIAN WATIE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 21 SEP 1788 Kincardine O'Neil, Aberdeen, Scotland

CHRISTAN WATTIE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 12 SEP 1789 Kincardine O'Neil, Aberdeen, Scotland

JEAN WATTIE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 10 JUL 1791 Kincardine O'Neil, Aberdeen, Scotland

PETER WATTIE - International Genealogical Index

ISOBEL WATTIE - International Genealogical Index

On the image in question, there's another capital "D" on the bottom of the three records, the spouse of the deceased, Catherine Dunn.
