Simon Ross details at NAS.....

Post by April » Fri Sep 09, 2005 1:14 pm

I have found a reference to an ancestor Simon Ross, who was transported to Australia, in the National Archives of Scotland:

Crown Office precognitions
CountryCode GB
RepCode 234
Repository National Archives of Scotland
Reference AD14/22/213
Title Precognition against Simon Ross for the crime of assault, robbery and theft
Date 1822
Accused Simon Ross, Address: prisoner in Edinburgh Tolbooth
AccessStatus Open
PlaceName(plans) /Scotland
FindingAids 19th Century Solemn Database

Does anyone know how further details can be obtained?

If you email NAS they and give them all the reference numbers , they will give you a quote for sending you copies of the documents . When I did it , they even found another one linked to the same case ! It can however be costly as it is priced according to the number of pages , which if a big case can be about 100 ! It can make really interesting reading though as it can include all the witness statements.
Hope this helps
