LECKIE FAMILY (Stirlingshire) William leckie/margaret Liddel

Post by Leckie90 » Fri Jan 27, 2017 1:01 pm

Hello everyone,

I am researching my family history and have came to a dead end.

The last information I found was a marriage record for William Leckie and Margaret Liddel dating 1827 in St Ninians, Stirlingshire.

My lineage is through their son James Leckie who married Frances Hall in Alva 1857.

Any information relating to any of the names above would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Scott Leckie

Do you have the family on census records?
Freecen for 1851 has a large Leckie family in Alva
Parents William and Margaret a son James at 21 plus several other siblings, mainly born sT Ninians stirlingshire.
Gives you a starting point for births.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.

I downloaded 2 documents for a James Leckie from the 1851 census, 1 from Alva and one from Fintry.

However other than barely being able to make out William and Margaret I can't make out the rest of the writing.

I downloaded them from scotlandspeople so I don't know if other sites would have better copies which I would be able to read.

Are you able to advise where you seen this census and if it is easier to read?

Thanks

Scott

If you go to www.freecen.org.uk you can see the transcription of the 1851 entry which Wilma has found.

Best wishes,

It's a transcription on http://www.freecen.org.uk
which, as the name suggests is a free site of census records, not all areas or years are complete but it's a great resource.
As it's transcribed by real local people, the results are much for accurate than computer sourced character recognition!
Sorry I hadn't copied it last time, but I was on my wee tablet.
