Annette

Are you sure you're no efter some more Jaffa Cakes! :D

Tusker

I thought BROWNLEE. Further up, on the name Cowgate, the final "e" has the same sort of flourish.

.....I think maybe somebody better check to see if there's any left....QUICK!!!

I thought Brownlee too, but I can't find anything on the IGI for a marriage in Ireland -- so I'll try Scotland -- and I'll also try Brownlow in both places. Thanks again to all.

Can't believe I missed this post when it was first posted as I've been a member almost since the start. Not sure if any of the main players are still on the site but thought I would just add by saying that the Hamilton Family are connected to my husband. Helen Hamilton, living with her granny and grandad in the 1901, is my husbands granny. She died at my husbands home in 1972. Funnily enough I was home in Scotland for christmas and my mother in law was telling us how she dropped by her Granny's house (Helen Hamilton/Gibbons) after school because she always seemed to have clootie dumpling in the pantry and sweeties in a dish. She blames her for her sweet tooth  Anyway, what a coincidence so thought I would just share.
