Hello Healther

You just beat me to asking you about your Laurie's :D . Although it is supposed to be a common name, those researching the family are a bit thin on the ground. :(

At this stage I only have Laurie's in Glasgow, but then I havent done a lot of collateral searches for this lot of long losts. I do have some names of siblings, but havent "searched" for their documents as yet.

While I am hear, what about your Stewart's where are they from, or have I already asked that before?

Hi Stew,Like you I'm only starting on my Stewerts and Lauries.I have:

John Laurie married Agnes MacMillan
30 Dec.1831 High Paisley

Their daughter Agnes Laurie born 20 May 1841 Abbey,Paisley
Agnes Married John Holmes 13 Aug. 1868 Paisley
This leads to my Great Granfather Matthew Holmes.

On the other side of my family:
James Brown(not the God Father of soul) married Mary Laurie
20 Oct.1884 Barrhead

Their Daughter Jane Adams Brown 29 Aug 1885 Neilston
Married My Great Grand Uncle Thomas Haldane
3 Jan. 1905 Templars Hall Glasgow Road ,Barrhead

William McIlwee Married Prudence Stewert
Their daughter Prudence McIlwee Married Robert Henry Haldane
4 April 1870 Neilston,Renfrew

Its Robert and his father Andrew that are my biggest brickwall .However I think I found something today.I'll let you know where my Stewert ends up.

Hullo Heather,

My 2nd Greatgrandmother Helen was a Brown from Barrhead, though a bit earlier than your James Brown. She was born in Barrhead in 1812, married in Neilston in 1838.

There are a lot of Browns around but well one never knows.

When I get back to the Macleod side of the family, I'll probably be asking you for help on the Nova Scotia side. My great uncle was a Stotious too, by adoption.

Have fun with your research.

CatrionaL I'll help if I can.The records here can be very splotchy. They were doing fine until the gov.took over in 1800's.There's still a lot of info.for communities in record books at my local library. After that it's the Provincial Archives.I helped one person this way but unfortunatly not the other.Don't mind trying though. It's fun. :D HK
