Hello Maureen

Nope...not from Collessie....not even from Scotland! :D And don't have Malcom's or Leitch's. I would like to see you make some contacts though! Which family are you tracing and from what time period? Is there any information we could help you obtain?? I wonder if you've seen a listing from the 1881 census of those surnames born in Collessie???

Here are all the Leitch's with Collessie birthplace

LEITCH, Euphemia Head <1820> Birth: Fife Collessie

LEITCH, Catherine Dau <1880> Birth: Fife Collessie
Census: Fife Collessie
LEITCH, James M. Son <1880> Birth: Fife Collessie

there were no Leith's.....

and here are all the Malcolm's...

Hello JustJean,

I don't have anything concrete to work from here ,only an entry in the 1881 Census that states JAMES MALCOLM aged 36 born in COLLESSIE.

IGI states him as born 1845 (fits in with census) as the son of
THOMAS MALCOLM and JANET LEITCH.
JAMES MALCOLM married MARY MCLEAN 1868.
Hoping someone may recogmise the names and connect.

Cheers,
Maureen

Hi Maureen

If this will help.....all the children of Thomas and Jane(t) MALCOLM:

1. THOMAS MALCOLM - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 12 MAR 1840 Collessie, Fife, Scotland

2. JOHN MALCOLM - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 29 NOV 1847 Collessie, Fife, Scotland

3. EUPHEMIA MALCOLM - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 21 APR 1850 Collessie, Fife, Scotland

4. JAMES MALCOLM - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 21 DEC 1845 Collessie, Fife, Scotland

Their mom Janet's DC is found in 1856 so you can get her parent details from that if interested in going back another generation.

In 1871 you'll find Euphemia livig with her grandparents MALCOM so could have an excellent chance of finding their deaths and further information that way.

You probably have this but in case not...James with wife Mary and family in 1881:

Collessie in Fife

Post by Billmalc » Thu Apr 13, 2006 7:34 pm

Hi Maureen

I am also searching for Malcolm's in Fife. In particular Thomas and his wife Elizabeth Gibson and their family.
Due to my disorganised method of searching on SP in the early months I have a few dowloaded documents that appear to be of no use to me at the moment :( I think I have one that may be of help to you? It's the 1851 census taken at Collessie and shows the following:

Thomas Malcolm Head 39yrs Rail. Porter
Janet " Wife 36yrs
Thomas " Son 11yrs
James " Son 5yrs
John " Son 3yrs
Euphemia " Daur 11months

This is my first posting and it would be nice to think that this is of some help to you. I may have other info that I have downloaded in error, but this is the one that jumped out!
I have the original download should you require a copy.

Apologies for the layout above, but the TAB key doesn't seem to work on here :?

All the best

Bill

Hi Billmalc
Pics of the three Malcom/Malcolm graves at Colessie taken this morning:
http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-497
http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-498 - an unusual style of grave
http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-499
http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-500
http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-501 - interesting that there were flowers at this one...

Have had to cut the size (and so also the quality) down to fit in the allotted gallery space here & also there is another one of all three stones together, but I've no room left to upload it. If you would like the full size versions, over 2Mb per picture, please PM me with your email address & I'll send them on.

Didn't need the walking boots for this one! Lovely sunny day, a well kept & interesting graveyard. I've driven past it many a time, so it was good to have a reason to stop and go for a wander around it. Thanks for the excuse!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Maureen and Bill.

I've come across this post by chance and reading through it and some of the replies, I realise that our families may be linked. The Thomas Malcolm mentioned above that married Margaret Dalgleish was my great grandfathers great grandfather. Their son Thomas b 1791 married Mary Dowie, they had a son Thomas b 1828 who married Elizabeth Robertson. They had two sons Thomas b 1877 and Andrew b 1879. I believe Elizabeth Robertson to be his second wife. The first being Catherine Robertson and the third wife being Elizabeth Blyth. Andrew was my great grandfather, Andrew married Janet Ferguson b1879 and they had three daughters Elizabeth, b 1905 , Janet b 1906 and Helen c1908 before my grandfather Thomas was born in 1914. Janet died three days after his birth and Andrew then married Helen Simpson. They moved to Yorkshire and had to other children Robert and Andrenia (Reenie).

Andrews brother Thomas b 1877 married Ages Kidd b1877 and the had a son called Thomas b 1918. My grandfather was born in Damside Cottage.

I don't know if any of this helps

Barbara
