Hi,
My GGGrandparents were James MATHISON/MATHESON/MATHIESON & Mary Laidlaw who married in Glencairn, Dumfriesshire in 1851 & had James 1854, Jane 1857, Margaret 1861 & William 1863. James MATHISON sr. was a agricultural supply merchant & the family was in Crieff, Perthshire for a while. Most ended up in Govan.
Jane married Angus FLETCHER (1887 I think) & they raised a family in Argyllshire. One of their sons was James FLETCHER, b. abt. 1888. (He was killed in WW1) My Dad has a book given to James that is inscribed
"To Jamie, From Auntie Liza, Christmas 1912" Angus & Jane had a daughter named Liza, so it must be a close family name, but it does not come from the FLETCHER side. We are wondering what Liza was living in 1912 from the MATHISON side? Did James MATHISON & Mary LAIDLAW have another child that we don't know of?
Thank you very much!

Elizabeth MATTHEWSON?
Hi,
Hello & thank you. I have just taken a second look at an extract from the 1881 census I have had for over a year. I think I see my "Auntie Liza" there! Until now, I thought it was unconnected to my family.
In Carlaverock, Dumfries there was a GIBSON family, headed by James GIBSON, 60, grocer, his wife, Janet, 48, son James 21, dau Janet 18 & sister-in-law Elizabeth MATTHEWSON age 46. Both Janet & Elizabeth were born in Glencairn. I believe they are sisters. Janet was definitely (according to 1857 marriage reg.) a dau of James MATHIESON & Mary FORSYTH - my ggggrandparents. I have often heard that "2 elderly aunts" ran a shop in Dumfriesshire & my ggrandmother, Jane MATHIESON, worked there for a time.
Elizabeth MATTHEWSON/MATHIESON would be 77 years old in 1912, so could very likely be the mysterious Auntie Liza. Now I need to find a post 1912 death for her.
Thanks all!
