Hi John

Glad you're enjoying the site. Can you possibly give us some dates for Elizabeth McTaggart and any other wee snippets of information you might have.

Cheers

I take it that this is your Betsy:

BETSEY MCTAGGART
Marriages:
Spouse: PETER SMITH
Marriage: 25 NOV 1856 Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Messages:
Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record

That being so, now you can access Scotland's People , finding that marriage Cert. will give you both their parent's names and an idea of their year of birth.

Hi again John

I was able to establish that the female born to Betsey and Peter was actually named Flora. Her birth certificate (31st May, 1859) Campbeltown, Argyll is on SP but the mother's name is shown as Turner(possibly a mistake). On further investigation I discovered Flora's marriage certificate in 1891 which confirms that her mother's maiden name was McTaggart and she was deceased by that time father Peter, however, is still alive.

Prior to that I checked out the 1871 census and John, Flora, Malcom and Charles were all boarding with an Isabella McMillan at 181 Witchburn, Campbeltown but no sign of Peter and Betsey.

Hope all this helps and all the above can be checked out at Scotlands People.

Happy Hunting
