1841 Census,New Monkland,John Murphy & Parents.....

Post by GTSCOT » Sun May 15, 2005 6:20 pm

I have records for John Murphy age about 19 Married Sarah Fanning in May 1842 . (OPR New Monkland5th Sabbath banns). John hails from Shankill, Belfast. I'm trying to find out if he came to Scotland with his Parents, Thomas & Isabelle (McGuire) or if he left them in Belfast. So Maybe they are in the 1841 New Monkland Census. I've been waiting and waiting for GROS to get it online. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it. (Can't get to Edinburgh or Mitchell myself, it's too long a commute!!) Thanks

As Edinburgh and Glasgow are outwith reasonable reach, how about an LDS Family History Centre nearer to home? They should be able to get the microfilm in for you (for a fee/donation?).

All the best,

Thanks Andrew. I have an LDS center near me. Couldn't find anything related to the Scottish 1841 Census there though. I also checked through some Irish records but nothing there to help me. I have used the CD's at the center to some avail but they are later years than I need at this time. I believe the only place to see the 1841 for Glasgow,Dunbartonshire, Lanark is the Mitchell or GROS.

The 1841 census for parish number 651 (New Monkland) should be available. According to the following webpage, it has been filmed twice - the film numbers are given there.

Thanks Andrew. I've learned something new. Lot of useful info. I'll check out my local LDS center soon and order the films if they don't have them.
