BELL.....

I have a bit of a brick wall with this one.

Ihave Robert BELL born 1892. Married to Isabella DIAMOND born 1888. They married 1914 Dunbartonshire.
Roberts parents were noted on marriage cert as James BELL (dec) and Mary Jane EWING (dec).
I have searched scotlands people for a marriage for his parents and found no match. Also tried death records for Mary but ofund nothing under both names BELL & EWING. I have also tried checking 1901 census for them and again no matches for all of them.
Can anybody help me here?

Have you any proof that any of them were in Scotland before the 1914 marriage ?

Have you managed to track down Robert BELL in the 1901 census?

I ask as my BELL branch came from Ireland but not until after the Great War.

No i don't have any proof.

I have spoken to my family however and my aunt does say Isabella DIAMOND was from ireland, possibly Belfast. Realy don't know about the BELL family.
Do you have any ideas how i could go about looking into that.
I ave already tried to find Isabella's family but haven't found a match, only a possible in Portrush.

Appreciate any ideas anyone has.

Were Robert's parents given on his marriage cert as James BELL and Mary Jane EWING (as you have put them) or as James BELL and Mary Jane BELL maiden surname EWING?

If the first way, then I don't think they would have actually have been married at all.

What did his birth cert say? The same would apply on that, I think.

Hello Amanda,

Are you sure about Robert's age? There is a Mary BELL/EWING who died in Scotland in 1887.

What was Robert's fathers occupation?

The marriage cert read the second way,
Mary Jane BELL, ms EWING

Roberts age was given on the marriage cert as 22 (unless he lied of course)
I haven't managed to find his birth records yet! Searched Scotlands People a few times!
