Does the surname McCreadie mean anything to you?!
Hi
My name is David McCreadie. I am a grandson of David McCreadie who was born in the parish of Minnigaff in 1876 in Glasgow, and whose father and mother were William & Jessie McCreadie respectively. David migrated to Kenya in the early 1900s and lost contact with his extended family in Scotland.
My mothers name is Mercy McCreadie and she would like to trace her ancestory. Her sisters and brothers names are as follows:
Jesse McCreadie
Florence McCreadie
Elizabeth McCreadie
Mercy McCreadie
Mary McCreadie
David McCreadie
John McCreadie
Boswell McCreadie
I have an old address for my grandfathers niece called Beryl McCreadie, her details are as follows:
38 Robslee Road
Orhcard Park
Thornelie Park
Glasgow
Scotland.
I would be grateful if anybody has any information to help in my search.
regards,
David McCreadie

Hi David
Welcome to TalkingScot
Its helpful if you can give approximate dates to go with the family names, whether they are for Births, Deaths or Marriages.
The time period you are looking at is, unfortunately, just outside the 1875 date when free searches on IGI can be done so the best way of finding them has to be on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (you can find the link at the top of the page)
It is a pay to view site but Scottish records are quite detailed and the cost is relatively modest.
I looked for the McCreadie family in Minigaff in 1851 (on http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/historicalindexes/census.aspx ) but none showed up. There are other families in various parishes in that area though and some of the family names may ring bells with you. There were about 70 entries with the McCreadie name across Dumfries & Galloway.
Perhaps one of our posters with access to the 1881 census CD may be able to help.

Hi David
I am Doug Saunders the grandson of John McCreadie your grandfathers brother. Beryl was my aunt and her sister Jessie my mother.
I think Mary wrote to Beryl about coming to Glasgow to attend school but I was not really involved although I did see a photograph.
I live in Melbourne Australia and my email address is dougsaunders31[at]yahoo.com.au .
It is great to find out you are tracing family members. Another brother Willie was living in Minigaff back in the seventies and his family were mostly in Glasgow but they still owned Rose Cottage the original family home. That was however a long time ago. My phone number is 0395236554 and 0410513001
Hoping to hear from you.
Doug

Hello Dot and a warm
This is a very old post and several of the posters haven't been back since they posted... but fingers crossed either they or other McCreadie researchers will find yours! In the meantime, have a good search of the forum to see if any other information is useful to you.
Best wishes,
Sarah

There’s some trees on Ancestry with this family eg the Shepherd family tree. They show Andrew as born in Minnigaff in 1829, married 20.11.1852 and dying 20.5.1882. (Buried Miles Platting, Manchester). Elizabeth Crawford b 1827, died 1879 (Whithorn, Wigtownshire).D.Willis wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 2:07 pmI'm also of Mccreadie clan from Minnigaff

I can see the 1852 marriage on Scotlandspeople. Minnigaff Church of Scotland records 876 20/159. Andrew’s surname is recorded as Credie.
I see a death for Elizabeth McCredie (mn Crawford) registered in Whithorn 1879 GROS ref 900/27. That certificate is viewable on-line and should show whether Andrew was still alive. In which case you might want to search for a death in the Manchester area in 1882.
There's an Andrew Creadie listed in the 1851 census for Minnigaff aged 21, GROS ref 876/7/23.
