Official visit at ScotlandsPeople Centre July 4th
The following note is currently on the desks of the historical search room at NAS:
"Due to an official visit on 4th July to mark the completion of work on the new ScotlandsPeople Centre, the Historical Search Room will be closed to members of the public until 1.00pm on that day. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Dave Brownlee
Deputy Keeper
4 June 2008"
So don't be turning up in the morning! I don't know yet if this will affect GROS as well.
From different sources I am also hearing conflicting reports that the ScotlandsPeople centre might either be opening later in July or much further down the line, around September.

Hey Chris,
I was at the NAS very briefly last week and passed comment about the construction work. The person I spoke to was very coy about when it would all be finished. Maybe September isn't so far off the mark?
Cheers,
Scott

The fully functioning, new SP centre involving the promised facilities, including computerised access to both the NAS, Lord Lyon, and GROS records is unlikely to be available before September 2008.
And, sad though it is that I feel it to be necessary to make the comment, I'll be a Chinaman if the fully functioning new SP Centre is available on this timescale; not least because the software required is far away from being developed and tested.

Tafkam's post regarding Royal visit, and Chris Paton's response were removed pending verification. TS software is not allowing me to return the original posts. Apologies for technological glitch. Erm, from a security point of view, wasn't that meant to be a secret?! lol
