Problem purchasing credits VBV grrr

Post by vickory » Fri Aug 07, 2009 1:19 pm

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone else have trouble with the Verified by Visa 'option' which seems to be compulsory now.

Today I needed more credits but couldn't make it work. My bank says all ok with my account someone elsewhere must have made a mistake, talk to SP, SP say talk to bank or worldpay, Worldpay say talk to SP or Visa, Visa say talk to SP or worldpay, SP says not their fault, talk to bank or buy vouchers!... gee talk about a run around.

So the b... thing is blocked by Worldpay or whoever & I'll need to go in person to my bank next week to fix a problem my bank says doesn't exist... just so I can try again.

Just a quick 200klm trip to town... I didn't have many problems before this VBV 'option'.

I was so looking forward to some family history searching this weekend
Regards, Vicki

 sorry for the rant

It would be the company who supply the Visa card that want the verification but usually they only ask if you are registered. Are you sure there is not a 'I am not registered' or 'register now' link when you are on the verification page?

Another thought - I manage all my cards online and when a verification is required I give the log in details I use to access my account online.

Annette

Hi vickory
I used to have a smilar problem with my Mastercard as the verification thing used to happen so rarely that I could not remember the password! For a long time I avoided sites offering this extra level of security because the whole thing was just such a blinking hassle.

In the end I had to phone the MC folk (who are quite separate from my bank, although the credit card is one with my bank's name on it... ) and reset my password. It is now engraved on my memory, whcih is just as well, as it seems to be required more often these days!

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Annette,
I couldn't find anything to opt out of or ignore the VBV process & that page wouldn't accept the details I gave it.
I've read the VBV pages on my bank site & worldpay & SP... sounds like an extra security measure... that should be a good thing.
But when it doesn't work it's a nightmare.
It says it will process a payment without VBV 3 times after which you must register... I know I've purchased credits many more than 3 times in the past without VBV so I thought it must be new.

Hi Lesley,

I know the password for the card... I can't get to anywhere that asks for the password!

The error message is telling me that my details don't match those provided by the 'merchant'... the merchant is SP... someone's made a typo somewhere & for once I'm sure it wasn't me!... or there is a server problem that SP or Worldpay won't admit to !
