Many thanks for your advice. I'm not very knowledgeable on the military in this period, so your explanation as to why the Paisley Volunteer pay books would stop in 1802 makes sense. I'm going to take another look at the pay books, and what I'm assuming are muster rolls from 1803. I think the confusion comes from the way the PRO records are organised i.e. 'volunteer' records are lumped together with 'militia' records. Of those that I looked through, they were all in the same box.
