Hi Just joined
I have quite a few books on the Glasgow Highlanders (who were 9th Bn Highland Light Infantry) and on some of the other Battalions of the Highland Light Infantry if anyone might be looking for information, mostly WW1 but have some WW2 info -
An excellent site and if I can assist please post or send a PM
Thanks

Re: Glasgow Highlanders and Highland Light Infantry
Hi Raymond
A very kind offer. As a long shot, is there any mention of:
McAULEY, HARRY, Private, Highland Light Infantry, 10th/11th Bn.
Date of Death: 23/04/1917 (died aged 31, born 1886, Glasgow)
Service No: 42511
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Bay 8. Memorial: ARRAS MEMORIAL
Surname McAULEY
Firstname Harry
Service Number 27189
Date Death 23/04/1917
Decoration
Place of birth Glasgow
Other latterly 42511 10/11th Bn. The Highland Light Infantry.
SNWM roll THE ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS
Rank Pte Theatre of death F.& F.
What would be superb is a photo if the publications you have contain such things - the only image I have of him is a not-so-great scan of a very out of focus old photo, but any information would be of interest.
Thanks for looking.
Best wishes
Lesley

Are individual soldiers details mentioned in the books you have? I have a great uncle who 'died from his injuries' in France in 1915 while a member of the 9th HLI.Raymond Bell wrote:Hi Just joined

The WW1 War Diary of 9th H.L.I. is available for download here for a few ₤s. (Large download) http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.u ... ViewerLink
It's unlikely to mention individual private soldiers unless they did something spectacular, but at least you can find out what they were up to on a particular day.
