BELTURBET BARRACKS - CAVAN
Is it possible to know what regiments were at Belturbet Barracks 1843-1850? I have an ancestor William Duke who died there in 1849. On his DC states he was a Barrack Sergeant and I would like to find out if he was attached to a regiment.
His wife remarried to Private Thomas Hunt of the 35th Regiment in 1850 - did not wait long
Many thanks Kay (Australia)

Hello Kay,
If he died while still a serving soldier his record would have been destroyed. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=567907.0
As far as I know a Barrack Sergeant would not have been attached to a Regiment but attached to a Barracks and the Barrack Department. He would probably have been in a regiment prior to the Barrack Department. If he was an Army Pensioner at the time he was appointed as Barrack Sergeant there may be a record on FMP.
Here’s a previous answer I gave about regiments at Belturbet. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=16199&start=10#p132753
All the best,
Alan
