A warm welcome to TalkingScot, Pollyellen [talkingscot]

If you would like to post the information you have and include the sources, there may be some members, while not familiar with that particular theatre, may be able to offer some direction in searching and finding your way through.

Dear site members,

Thanks for allowing me into your site. I am seeking any info on the above ,my grandfather DOB 1892,Camlachie
Glasgow, and latterly in Shettleston, Glasgow,up to and including the WW1.

He married Janet Bell,of Shettleston and had 2 children Daisy and Charles,my Father. He had a driving licence prior to the out break of the war,and I believe he joined up sometime in 1914.Sorry I have no sources as yet,but I believe he was with the Cameronians,as I know he was a member of the Cameronians Club, in the West end of Glasgow, certainly in the 50's and 60's He went there most sunday nights for s drink, then when I was a teenager in Glasgow.
I know he sailed out to Alexandria,Egypt, and then on to Gallipolli. The family story is that my fathers middle name Alexander ,comes from the fact that My g/father was in Alexandria shortly before his son's birth. He also fought in Salonika and when the army found out he had a driving licence he was supposedly made up to Sergeant. After Salonika I believe he sailed to a Southern French port and drove a Converted London Bus
up to the western front ,presumably carrying troops or supplies.
Is here anyone out there who can throw any light on this story, Alex McMillan

Hi
This may give you some help as it is listed where various Cameronians Battalions were over a period of time:

To find out more, I think you'd need to first establish which Battalion he was in, and then follow it up by finding out if there are extant war diaries for them. There may be some clues about the Battalion on his medal card which you can download from Ancestry or the National Archives site. The war diaries are held in London at the National Archives, and it looks as if some may now be downloaded in digital format.
