Old Medal.....

Post by Pandabean » Fri Jun 09, 2006 2:58 pm

I have found an old medal from my Great Grandfather. At least I think it was his.

It is dated 1897. It has queen Victorias head on one side and on the other it seems like Roman or Greek warrior on horseback. The horse seems to be lifting its front up and underneath it is something like a dragon.

I have check whether it is from the Boer War but the date of the medal does not coincide with the dates of the first and second Boer Wars.

Any ideas of what this medal could be for?

Hi Pandabean
Does it have a ribbon? if so, do any of these ribbons match?

And this site has a lot of pics which may help to identify your medal:

Nope, no ribbon with it. I had a look at that site under Brittish Medals but none of them match.
