My Grandfather JOHN BURNS (Formerly JOHN BURNS KELLY) was a private in the A & S Higlanders.
His no. was 22034.
I have found a VERIFICATION OF MARRIAGE ( for military purposes only) document among some old family papers .
Where can I find out more about this.
Thanks for the help
Frances

Hi Frances
I had a query regarding my Great Uncle who was a sergeant with the Argylls and I emailed the museum at Stirling Castle. The gentleman there was extremely helpful. They do not charge but will accept a donation. The email address is: museum@argylls.co.uk
They may not have any info on your relative but they will point you in the right direction.
Lots of luck
