Just spent a week in Scotland and managed to take my mums cousin to the black watch museum in Perth. He was very excited about us taking him there as he is now registered blind but does still have some vision. He was most disappointed that we never found anything about his great grandfather and I wonder if anybody has any records that might help. He is Alexander 'Sandy' McKerrow b1835 d 1909. He was in the black watch and there was a picture in the paper when he died. He has on his medal from the Crimea war. Also my grandfather was in the black watch. Alistair McKerrow b 1897.
If anybody can help me find some details of either of these 2 men it would be great.
Thanks
GLoria

Hi there Gloria
Glad to hear you had a good trip and hope the weather wasn't too bad! I don't know how useful these ideas will be, but here goes (with apologies if you've already tried them out!):-
This is the main page for the Black Watch and you might gets some ideas from the site:- http://www.theblackwatch.co.uk/newsite/index.html
There are 2 deaths of an Alexander McKerrow on SP between 1900 and 1910, I've got 60 credits at the moment, but they've expired, so I can't look at them for you I suppose you've already checked them out, but the DC would perhaps give some more information.
Have you looked at the various Census returns on SP - you might get something from them?
There's an archive of newspapers at the British Library and it's possible you might find some leads from the site:- http://www.bl.uk/collections/warfare3.html
But if you knew the locale where he was living when he died, you might find more info in the local papers. The Scotsman also have a section in their web pages about geneaology, so that might also be worth a look.
I hope you manage to find something out for your mum's cousin.
All the best.
Liz
