I have one in my tree stated as "reputed" father. I am hoping when I get to the kirk session records I will be able to trace him as he had quite a common name to the area.

Re: Skinner and Telford
Hello Jim,
great news, if unexpected. I shall be in Northumberland for a few days in mid-September so e-mail if I can help with parish records. This is subject to the films not being transferred to a new location, which is scheduled to be soon.
In case you have been looking for Low Learchild, it is 11-12 miles due west of Lesbury, near the A697 (nearest village Whittingham). There was a (pre-Beeching) railway line to Alnmouth, so he may have hailed a passing train to partake of the sea air at Alnmouth.
Regards,
John

Nice one Jim
You would not like to extend any of the serendipity to our mutual ancestors now would you. Got some extra details on some of them and also a bit of a mystery once I've digested the info properly.

Hi Anne
This was just sheer luck, what were the odds that they decided to photograph the very page my Elizabeth was on?....wouldn't it be great if we could have just a wee bit of the same good fortune with our Belfast conundrum.
Looking forward to hearing what you have found out on the others.
I think Mary is right.... Robert Telford is my ancestor (like it or not), I'm sure he will grow on me in time
Thanks for the offer John, I may take you up on that (but don't go out you way).
This part of Northumberland is really beautiful, and just a wee bit of history...
Malcolm Canmore (king Malcolm 111) died in Alnwick during an ill-fated incursion in 1093.... his son and heir Edward also died of wounds suffered during the same battle.
There is a well hidden cross on the spot to commemorate Malcolm, the cross was erected by one of the Percy family who claimed direct descent.

Re: Northumberland
Hello Jim,
I would go out of my way anyway, but I shall be looking at parish registers for my own lot. The register films and censuses are in Morpeth library, but they are due to move to Woodhorn, supposedly in September, where Northumberland Records Office will be relocated. It is only 6 miles away, but it means driving, whereas the old Records Office was only a short walk from my father's house, as is the library.
Let me know before I travel on 12th September.
Regards

hi all
I passed through Alnmouth on Wednesday on my way to Newcastle on a work trip. It really is lovely in that part of the world. I hope you find out more about your ancestors there Jim and you may get to like him. I'm quite fond of my Hermann the bad German who appears to have married another just as my great gran was producing my grandfather! I think her father must have had the bigger shotgun!
