Well I did it. Iwrote a letter to my living relatives.
I got home tonight to find that I had an email from them and all wanting to stay in touch, so I have the best xmas present ever.
They were as shocked as we were to find that they had an uncle and cousins that they didnt know about, and seem really happy at being in touch.
I am really glad I wrote the letter now as I was worried about the response I would get, as it could all have gone horrible with no one wanting any contact.
Although I have really enjoyed looking up my family tree, even with all the frustrating times, there is no feeling like the one I have right now. Emotional isnt the word.
Thank you every one for your help in the past. And for any help given in the future.
Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year. :D
Regards
Anne.

Hi Anne

Either I'd forgotten, - after all, the grey, or should I say silver [help] , hairs predominate these days, - or I hadn't realised the whole situation in terms of this being your father's biological family; but all the more reason in that potentially very delicate situation to approach his kith and kin by post in the first instance.

But now you have a whole new pile of relatives to get to know, and not too from Farnborough. [many-greens]

Orraverybest

David

PS Not a million miles from where I lived for a few years, - Hook.

Hi David,
I thought about what to put in the letter and also added that if they wanted no contact that I would honour them. I am very lucky that it has gone the way it has. As you say it is a very delicate situation. Especially as they were not aware of my Dads birth.
Hook isnt that far from me, and the funniest thing of all being that one of my gg grandfathers deserted the army from Aldershot in the late 1800's you never think of them being so close to where you are now.
The family I have found are all still living in Glasgow, so unlikely to meet in the near future unless we go there or they come here. And it has to be agreeable from both ends.

Hi All,
Just a quick update and to share my good news. I was meant to be meeting my new found rellies this week, they were coming from Glasgow to Hampshire. But, due to the train strike, they are now coming next week instead.
I have spoken to them several times on the phone and have exchanged family pictures, and we can all see the family resemblence even in first cousins.
After they have been here i'm driving up to Glasgow at Easter to meet all of the rest of the family. Cant wait for both trips as its really exciting and also very daunting to be meeting rellies that we never knew existed until six months ago.

Regards
Anne. :D

Hi Tammie,
Im not sure who you are looking for as I dont seem to have any Kings in my info. You may want to put a seperate post in the general section, and I am sure you will find people on here only too willing to help, as they are a great bunch.
Regards
Anne.
