All the praise is well deserved...many thanks for everyone's dedication and expertise. Where would so many of us be without your help and selflessness?

From someone who started off on the old SP forum as a rank novice making many an error. Then on to this magnificient forum where the kindness and generosity of many members contributes to an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness. I say bravo all. To Jack, what a kind and generous soul he is, the assistance in all matters census and poor relief has been outstanding. =D> =D>
I am also pleased that through the learning process, I have also in a small way been able to assist some others in their searches for their long losts.

To all

And here's a round from me too. Of applause that is!

This is my first stop when I log on, and I have to say, sometimes it's the only stop I make. It takes me so long to read all the post's that I o ften don't get any research done. But I'm not complaining, it's too much fun. Just keep up the great work.

Many Many Thanks.

Christine.

Hello David
Cunningham[e] it is (North Ayrshire)
but why did East Ayrshire not get a wee mention( Kilmarnock and Loudon)
Rita
'Cos there were only ever those 3 parts of what later became the County of Ayr on a historical basis!

Believe it or not I couldn't spell it until I looked up Old Scots dictionaries and had a quick Google!

I don't ever recall hearing it in my home town of Ayr, and it's only latterly in life in Glasgow that I became familiar with the term...... I wouldn't be sure that it hasn't, over the centuries, also been spelt with a "T" ....
