Success--Thanks to Colin Milne again!

Post by speleobat2 » Mon Oct 15, 2007 2:11 pm

Recently I received information from the Aberdeen Archives Department saying that my 2x great grandfather George Clerihew was buried in St. Peters/Spital cemetery. I checked the NE Scotland website and discovered that Colin Milne had just completed surveying the gravestones in St. Peter's so I contacted him with the information. Yesterday, he sent me pictures of three Clerihew gravestones and some information recorded on one which was hard to read in the picture.

The Archives dept. had sent me information on three Clerihew graves so I was hoping that Colin had the inscriptions from those. Imagine my surprise when I looked at his pics and saw three completely different gravestones! :o It turns out that the stone he had which mentioned George Clerihew was erected by my 1x great grandfather in memory of two of his children and his sister Ann. This stone doesn't mention his parents George and Sophia. It also doesn't mention his wife Isabella who was the mother of the two children buried there!

My sister and I are thinking that our great grandfather George had the stone erected just before he left Scotland for the USA with his four surviving children in 1916. So the hunt goes on and our 2x great grand parents remain elusive and a mystery to us. We also have no clue as to where our great grandmother Isabella was buried.

A million thanks to Colin Milne again! We're hoping that he publishes his work at St. Peters in some form. It would be a terrific resource!

Hi Carol,

Your 2x great grand parents might still remain elusive but you've certainly made great strides with your other Clerihew's :) How wonderful Colin Milne was able to send you the pictures of the gravestones.

Regards,
Anne H

Hi Anne,

Yes, Colin is a great guy!

My sister and I have decided to turn the search for our 2x great grandfather and his family over to a professional. We're spending too much money chasing false leads so we're going to let someone over there have a try and I'll move on to other branches of the family! There are plenty of Munros and Taylors and Raitts and Riries out there to check on! :D
