TS does it again!

Post by Muriel » Tue May 06, 2008 9:23 am

I've been looking for 2 brothers for a long time; they disappear after the 1901 census :x Every so often I stick the names into Ancestry & yesterday - bingo! One of them showed up in the Australian electoral registers in Victoria. I wouldn't have known where to go from there but a quick search of TS told me how to access the Victorian BMD indices & now I have 2 years of death & 1 year of marriage & spouse's name :D OK, I was too mean to shell out for the actual certificates - they were only 2nd cousins twice removed  - but at least I know what happened to them.

Thanks TS.

That's a great jump ahead, Muriel.

For those unfamiliar with the TS sources reference Muriel was referring to, have a look at this and our other helpful aids in the TalkingScot Library section: http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=39

Hello Muriel,

It’s always nice to find people where you least expect them to be.

There may be a record of their arrival in Victoria at the Public Record Office http://www.access.prov.vic.gov.au/publi ... ide023.jsp

If they were around miliary age for WW1 there may be very detailed records at National Archives of Australia http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch.aspx

If they were around military age (or even Dad's Army age) for WW2 (or other wars) there may be records at the Australia War Memorial http://www.awm.gov.au/database/nroll.asp

There could be more elsewhere, you never know your luck.

Hope there’s something,
Alan
