A moving experience

Post by frances » Fri Jun 20, 2008 7:06 am

I had the priviledge yesterday of showing a young man from New Zealand around The Dower House in Corstorphine Edinburgh.

His G G Grandparents (The THOMSON family) lived in The Dower House when they ran a local market garden in the late 1800s. Another set of relatives lived nearbye in Roseleaf cottage (The HERBERT Family) His astonishment and finding his relatives in so many documents that we are lucky to have in our archives was quite moving and extraordinary.

I was also able to show him where some of his family are buried in The Old Parish Church Yard, many pictures were taken and are no doubt already on their way to New Zealand.

A truly magical day for both of us. As I came home last night from visiting my husband in hospital I received a phone call from my daughter in Nairn to say that she is going into hospital this morning to have her baby induced. Her married name is JENI HERBERT --A coincidence or what.

After our first granchild was born in Newcastle in March (Euan Liston MacRae) can't wait for this latest edition to the MacRae /Herbert family to be born . Will keep you posted.

Oh all my fingers & toes are crossed for the safe arrival of your new grandchild & a speedy recovery for your daughter.
It is so awesome to be able to help people visit their past & share in their delight as they link to their past & their blood.
Hope hubby is not too long hospitalised either.
Good luck I will be thinking of you & yours this weekend.
