Following the sucess of finding my G Gran, I have been surprised by my Fathers line.
Edward Mckay born 1934 Cashel Tipperary Ireland, father Stephen b1875 Boytonrath Ireland, his marriage entry, states his father Robert was a shepherd from Scotland. My father was very shocked by this news.
It was always insisted that our surname was pronounced MacKay not MacKiy. Was my GG Grandfather trying to distance himself from being a Scot ??.
Anyway another Scots line.
Then I take the line of my Grandfather Charles Bolter who married the daughter of Margaret Davidson & Walter Dell.
Charles Grandmother, my GG Grandmother Susan Melvin b1852 Limehouse London, father James Melvin b1813 Norwich Norfolk, leads back to Peter Melvin born abt 1687 Scotland.
Settlement certificate: Melvin , Peter, his wife and 4 children Date 2 May 1715 Description Certifying Parish: Inveraven, Banff, Scotland. Parish of residence: Norwich Norfolk, St Mary in the Marsh. Extent 1 paper Catalogue_Reference PD 499/61/13
There is no record still in existance in Scotland, shame.
A Peter Melvin married 5 jun 1687 Perth.
I now seem to be more of Scots origin than anything.
best regards Brenda
