Hi all,
Over the weekend, I was searching for the address of a third cousin or actually his wife who is also working on our family tree and couldn't find it anywhere. I finally Googled her and up popped a listing for Facebook.
I hadn't signed up for Facebook yet. It's really not my kind of thing, but I went ahead to see if I could contact my cousin's wife. Once I got registered and read ALL of the fine print so I could restrict access to my information etc. I found my cousin's wife's page and sent her a message. The next day I had an answer back along with her address and now we are exchanging family information and pictures!
Then while I was on there I looked for a high school friend whom I had lost contact with 10 or 12 years ago and found her too!
Then I started looking at pictures ....you can while away many hours on that site.

I love Facebook as my family/friends are spread around the globe-it's great for sharing photos, news & just keeping up to date with the day to day trivialities.
There is also a genealogy group with Scottish Groups which have some useful links etc.

I'm signed up with Facebook, due to my nieces and nephew's sending me little invites every other week but not really into it...don't really know what I'm doing, to be honest with you. I'll have to start googling again and see if any familiar names come up for Facebook.
Googling has brought up a few obituaries that have been a great source for furthering my research though...love that Google!
Regards,
Anne H

Didn't know there was a genealogy group with Scottish connections - I'll have to explore that!
With my 'other hat' on - I have a research student who is very interested in the ways people use Facebook and the parallels (or lack of such) between Facebook and 'real' life. I was just reading some material she's written for me and then clicked on talkingscot and what should I first see here!

off to look for that genealogy group...

Jenny, you've probably seen by now that this could lead to spending about three days of your life reading stuff on Facebook!!!
If you search "genealogy group Scotland", you'll get 34 results, many for individual surnames. If you start clicking on the groups within the group, then the results multiply exponentially!
I guess if I wanted to find others with my surname, I'd search "(surname)group" to try to narrow down the results there.
