I just want to thank Nancy for the census info she provided to me on the McCracken family, I sent for the Social Security info on James Jr and received it yesterday, he states he was 16yrs old, completed the application in 1942 and was an orphan and worked for Thos A Passafiume in Homestead PA.
So now I wonder what happened to his parents, James Muir McCracken Sr would have been 53yrs and his wife Lillian 46yrs, very young...... maybe an accident of some kind??
Does anyone know how I would go about doing a death search for the parents in PA??

Parents Death in PA
I haven't done any research along those lines in Pennsylvania, but the official site is:
http://www.dsf.health.state.pa.us/healt ... DeathMulti
Also, Allegheny County has a genealogy group, maybe someone there has some expertise to help
http://www.rootsweb.com/~paallegh/
Hope this helps a little bit.

Thank you Cathy for the sites, but it looks like I need to prove myself by sending in my identification as only direct next of kin are permitted to request these certificates, drats!!winslowsmom wrote:I haven't done any research along those lines in Pennsylvania, but the official site is:
