Not mine but.....

Post by joette » Mon Dec 19, 2005 10:44 am

At this time of year so many of us think of loved ones who are no longer with us either dead, far away or estranged.
I have to share the story of a friend.Nothing to do with ancestors except in the very recent past & no connection to Scotland.I especially wanted to share this with Mykala's Gran to give her hope.
Several years ago a friend lost her only child. This child was married with a child. Both parents were very young & the child two. When her child was dying the partner refused admission to either parent although my friend remained at the hospital until her only child died.
The remaining parent then cut all ties refusing permission to see, have any contact with the child. She did send cards, presents via a sibling of this widow/er.Many years passed with little news except that there had been a remarriage & some more children.
My friend hired a Private Detective when her Grandchild was reaching eighteen. However this turned out disastrously when he turned out to be a conman who took her & several others money for nothing.
Anyway through her own endeavours(wigs, borrowed cars were involved.) she discovered her Grandchild's whereabouts. On a significant birthday she parked outside his house & waited. She called the grandchild over on the pretext of asking directions.
"Are you my Grandmother?"
She had no idea how she had been recognised but her grandchild recognised her straight away. She then approached her child's partner & after much discussion it was agreed that if the Grandchild agreed they could meet.
Fast-forward to this Christmas when she not be alone but will be spending part of the day with her only living descendant.I am cheering, greetin & incredulous.I have shared this rollercoaster ride & am so happy that she will hAVE this joyous,bitter-sweet day.She is the least bitter person I know & is happy to have this reconciliation no matter how much she has missed in the past. \:D/

Dear Joette I’ve just read your post and I’m so happy for your friend. This time of year can be very difficult for those who have lost those close to them and I can think of nothing worse than a parent losing a child. I hope your friend now has the opportunity to get closer to her grandchild, and I’m so glad she has a good friend like you.

Regards
