Unexpected cousin

My best 'find' was a cousin. As a beginner I had been struggling to find out more about an ancestor in Renfrew, so I surfed the net and found a site dedicated to Renfrew.... lo and behold, there was someone else looking for the very same ancestor. He turned out to be a professional researcher, who had come up against the same brickwall as I had - an 'irregular marriage' where the couple were 'admonished by the moderator' and no parents' names were given. This researcher then put me in touch with his client, who turned out to have the same gtgrandfather as me. Gtgrandad had moved from Renfrew to Sunderland. My grandparents had moved away and so had my cousin's - I live in Kent and he lives in Suffolk.

We still struggle with the 'pesky Knoxes' (as someone calls them), but I live in hopes that someone out there will know more than I do!

Hi Davran
Great to hear of your sucessful "find" of a cousin. I've certainly found that when there are more than one of you researching the same line a lot more ground can be covered and many more stones overturned. I hope your research continues to be successful and you make some progress with your 'pesky Knoxes'!
