Oh What a lovely day I've had.

Post by rye470 » Sun May 07, 2006 6:02 am

After having read all the recent postings on this site last night, I was at a bit of a loss as to where to go next. I decided to review and update my Family Tree Maker, something I have neglected to do recently. After pulling it up, I really couldn't get into it, so I decided to hit names and do a web search. Well blow me if I didn't find a whole line that I had come to a dead end on.

I've had Christina Fife's Birth, Death and Marraige Cert to James Malcolm since Scot's Origins was the place to be. None of you're print's from SP. The REAL McCOY. A proper copy.

A couple of years ago, I traced all their children and her husband James' re-marraige to Christina Leslie after Christina Fife died, 6 days after giving birth to their 7th child. After that, a dead end - nothing.

Last night Ancestry threw up the Fife/Malcolm line to the present day. And they were all in the US. Well, you can imagine! I was beside myself. I immediately e-mailed another relative who is into this and gave her details with strict instructions to e-mail me. We had a problem.

CONTACT: UNKNOWN.

Well, I was beside myself. SO NOT FAIR.

Before I spoke to Bev (my 2nd cousin - found 5 years ago), she had found a recent obit for a member of this family. We plumped for a name, googled for a phone number, and I called this lunch-time. Excited is hardly strong enough. The woman was ecstatic, and it wasn't even her that added the tree, it was her brother. She insisted that I call him immediately. She also made me promise to call her again tomorrow.

Although there was only 10 minutes between the calls, (I had to listen to a blow by blow account of my 6 year old's soccer match), she had already been on the phone and told him I was going to call.

He had a fair amount of information, but is missing an awful lot.

He had no knowledge of S.P. or Family Search . All he has are family stories and existing documents. I'm happy to say that I have put him on the right track for finding his "Scot's Origins". As a "wee treat", I had a look at family search tonight and found him 2 brothers and 2 sisters of his Gt Gt, Grandfather, James Malcolm. I can't wait to tell him.

I wish I could say that the story end's here, but it doesn't.

When I lost track of the Malcolm Family, it was because they moved here, to the states. North Adams and Pittsfield in Mass. to be exact.

You'll have to concentrate here.

Approximately 39 years after the death of her sister in law, and 3000miles from home, my Gt Grandmother was laid to rest in the same graveyard as her brother in law.

When my Gt Grandfather, Charles Fyfe, died, half of the family moved here to the U.S. They settled in North Adams, Mass. The same place that her Brother in Law had settled so many years earlier. The funny thing is that these families lived in the same town without being aware of each other. The connection was only made last night through Ancestry.
My cousin , Bev, was born and raised in Pittsfield and had no idea of their existence. She knows where they live, and can visualise the street's. Another contact problem, Bev moved to Florida 2 years ago.

And here I will end this tale. I'm sorry it has taken up so much space, but I am still trying to straighten this out in my mind. I just had to share this.

Just think, you never know who lives in the next street. It could be your 2 nd Cousin /Gt Aunt/ Uncle Freddy once removed.

Have a good one, I just have.

Hi All,

Many thanks for you're enthusiastic responses. I'm still on a bit of a high.

I've been very busy with this line since Saturday and have been able to find another 6 of James Malcolm's siblings as well as his parents marraige in 1845 ,and his grandparents names. I've a lot to tell next time I speak to them.

Again , Many Thanks.
