Chance is a fine thing

Post by Russell » Fri Aug 18, 2006 11:01 pm

:!:

Tonight we were looking for some of my son-in-law's ancestors in Cambusnethan. As usual when you download a death certificate every entry is studied even if the other two are totally irrelevant to your search.
At the bottom of the third entry was the signature of the attending Medical man.
Yippee!!!!! My gt gt uncle Nathaniel Daniel Isaac Oman was a GP in Cambusnethan and there he was!

We knew he had departed at some time for sunny Gibraltar but this narrows down his date of leaving.

We were already knee deep in certificates and censuses but this made our night!

Well Russell, if ALL CAPS MEANS YOU ARE SHOUTING, does bold underlining mean you are screaming with joy?
I'm very happy for your unexpected success! :!:

Thanks folks
I hope everybody can make as lucky a 'find'.

Yes Frances - Jean and I were speechless -( which is very rare for me Ask Liz!) then the jumping up and down started.

It makes the person real and builds their life story doesn't it?

Part of the joy too is being able to share it with a great bunch who appreciate the satisfaction it brings.

TS is TOPS :!: :!:

Yes what a piece of serendipidty.I have had a couple of "lucky finds" too.
Under the Marriage entry of my Grandparents was the 2nd Marriage of my
Aunt's(by marriage) Grandfather.Showing it to her has sparked an interest in her tree.
Also the sad find of an unknown fourth child for my GGGreat-Grandparents where two children's deaths are recorded sequentially both died within hours of each other during a whooping cough epidemic.
