Always pays to look more than once

Post by Pandabean » Sun Mar 11, 2007 10:51 pm

While I was back home for the weekend I went through my grandfathers suitcases again to look at the photos. Basically I was hunting for an elusive picture that my mum remembers of my grandfather's father in an army uniform but it wasnt there. I have looked through the cases more than once. This time I came across the photo of a gentlemen and tried hard to understand the scribbles on the back of the photo. It turns out that it says "Rob Greenlees" with the ages 23 and 25 scribbled down on it in pencil. I was so happy that I have now seen my great grandfather. :) I will have to scan the photo in when I next go home.

As well as this photo I managed to find my grandads France and Germany (44-45) Star which was hidden away at the bottom of one of the suitcases amongst my grannys jewellery. I also found certificates for safe driving course, a premium bond for £1 dated 1970 and a life assurance policy set up for my grandfather by his granny.

I love looking through those suitcases as everytime there is something new to find.

So always look at stuff more than once. ;)

What great finds, Andy. :)

When I was home last April for my mother's funeral, I was thrilled to find an old newspaper clipping from the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertizer with a group photo that included my great granny...only problem is that no one seems to know which of the ladies is great granny  I'm still trying to find out.

Regards,
Anne H
