Hi
After tracking down my Gt Gt Grannie recently I was on a roll and kept on going. I found out that her father was a tailor who was born in Stranraer. In 1848 he married Agnes, a Midlothian lass, and they were living in Glasgow. By 1861 they had four children but sadly Agnes died from the dreaded consumption before the year was out.
Two years later James got married again - to another Agnes. She was a widow whose husband was a tailor who had died in 1861. And her father was a tailor whose was born in Stranraer.
I've never been a believer in coincidence but it is a bit strange.
James and Agnes Mk2 were in their late 30's when they got married. They both had children from their previous marriages but there was one more child to come. A boy was born and they had to decide what to call him. His dad was a Thomson and his mum's maiden name was Thorburn - somehow they came up with the idea to name the poor lad Thorburn Thomson. I haven't researched him yet but he should be easy to find with a name like that.
It's an unusual given name and it certainly confused the hell out of Ancestry. According to their OCR system his name is Barbara
Cheers
Jim
Coincedence or what ?
